Insurance offered & what you need to know
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)/Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
CDW/LDW waives damage costs with a high excess payable for damages (US$5,000.00 for cars to US$7,500.00 for motorhomes). LDW is CDW + Theft Protection.
  • Excess payable for any damage is very high.
  • CDW is included in your booking.
  • Some types of damage are not covered by CDW, for instance some rental companies do not cover windscreens, cracks and chips, tyre punctures & replacements, and damages to headlights and underbody.
  • CDW does not cover expensive accident-related fees such as administration, towing and loss of use fees.
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
Super Collision Damage Waiver reduces your remaining excess towards US$0.00.
  • Can be purchased for US$20.00 - US$30.00 per day.
  • Price tiers usually mean that you pay even more to get US$0.00 excess.
Roadside Assistance Cover
Covers roadside costs such as towing, fuel and key lockout.
  • Can be purchased for US$10.00 - US$15.00 per day.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Personal Accident Insurance compensates you for personal injuries (including passengers).
  • Optional at the rental desk for US$10.00 - US$15.00.
  • Available in travel insurance policies.

These are our top tips to save money and hassle on your rental.

Pre-pay and save

RentalCover.com is sold by the largest online travel agencies globally and you can buy directly on RentalCover.com, saving you 50% compared to the rental companies.

Take photos before and after

Take photos & videos of the vehicle at both pickup and dropoff. We’ll ask you during the claim to provide these and to provide details of any unfair charges from your rental company. Take the time to capture any pre-existing damage and nominate those in your rental agreement to avoid excessive charges.

Just say 'no'

If you've bought Collision Damage Waiver and/or Supplemental Liability Insurance with us, you can say 'no' to the hard sell for CDW/LDW or SLI from the rental company.

With Collision Damage Insurance...
  1. Notify your rental car company of the damage immediately. If the costs are likely to exceed $3,000, please notify us via our claim form. You can check your policy wording at any time.

  2. Go to rentalcover.com/claim to report all incidents.

  3. Submit finalised invoices, photos, all written communications and other documents as requested. You may receive a bill from the rental car company. If so, attach it to your claim and our underwriter (Asservo) will pay the rental car company directly. If you’re required to pay your rental car company up front, keep the invoice and you will be reimbursed when your claim is approved.
