“RentalCover.com” is owned and operated by Cover Genius Pty Ltd ABN 43 159 983 598 who have arranged this insurance in its capacity under AFS Licence No 490058 under authority given by Assetinsure Pty Ltd ABN 65 066 463 803 who is authorised by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) to conduct general insurance business. 
 
What types of vehicle are insured?

Rental vehicles, authorised car share vehicles, mechanic loan cars, accident replacement vehicles & vehicles that are 15 seats or less. 

 
When are you not covered?

a. Any claim where you have not met the terms of your car rental agreement.

b. Any claim where a contravention of the local laws has taken place resulting in a court action or an enforceable action including but not limited to a misdemeanour fine relating to driving.

c. Campervans, motorhomes, trucks, vehicles with 16 or more seats, minibus or other type of bus, motor home, trailer, caravan, non-passenger carrying vehicle, motorcycle, moped, motorbike, off-road vehicle being used off-road.

d. Driving on unsealed roads except where that road is a private road to an accommodation venue.

 

 
 
"Not at fault" accidents

In the event that an excess that you have paid would be refundable because you are "not at fault", the Claims Team will outline a process whereby you will be reimbursed expediently (subject the rental company's cooperation) and the pending refund from the rental company is instead paid to us.

Countries
Policy is valid for Residents of United States and provides coverage to rentals that commence in United States. Policy remains valid if you drive to another country.
Claims

Your claim will be handled on the insurer’s behalf by RentalCover.com who, whilst handling claims, is acting as an agent of the insurer.

Visit rentalcover.com/claim to make a claim. Supporting documents must be provided as requested on claims page during the claim process.

You are required to submit your claim details within 45 days of you being charged by the car rental company.

Special conditions relating to claims

  1. If at the time of any incident which results in a claim under this policy, there is another insurance covering the same loss, damage, expense or liability we will pay the amount remaining after the claim amount is confirmed by the other insurer.
  2. You must provide us with:
    1. Final invoices from the rental company and repair companies (windscreen repairers, smash repairers, assessment providers etc.) which show:
      • The cost of all repairs undertaken
      • The total charges from the rental company in respect of your excess and other charges related to the accident.
    2. Other documents as requested by your claims officer.
    3. All correspondence and documents shared between you and the rental company.
  3. We may reject a claim if it is deemed that the evidence provided is not compatible with the documents requested.
  4. Claims payments will be paid based on a published transfer rate rather than a mid-market rate, in a currency appropriate for the policyholder’s Country of Residence.


Explanation of Inclusions

You are covered for the below up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule.

Theft of Vehicle

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule where there are costs incurred in relation to an incident of theft. Theft is subject to the definition listed in this document. If the theft is deemed to have been caused by a lack of due precaution, including but not limited to failure to remove keys from the vehicle, you will not be covered. If the theft has led to a criminal charge or an enforceable fine or misdemeanor charge from the relevant authorities, neither the associated costs nor any costs from the rental company can be claimed.

Damages that are not insured by the Rental Company

You are covered for any excess charges or out of pocket expenses up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule where the Rental Company does not cover specific types of damage or accidents, or mechanical costs or other charges that may arise, subject to the conditions outlined elsewhere in this document, including but not limited to:
  • Underbody
  • Roof
  • Windscreens, Mirrors & Lights
  • Fire or vandalism

Tyres

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule for tyre puncture repairs or replacement costs.

Key Cover

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule for the cost of replacing a lost or stolen rental vehicle key, including replacement locks and locksmith charges & key delivery costs.

Lock Out

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule in the event that you are unintentionally locked out of a rented vehicle with the keys inside for the necessary costs incurred to open the rental without causing any further damage. The rental company must approve the locksmith prior to a locksmith being called out.

Curtailment / Refund of unused rental days

You and any of your travelling party are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule if the car rental agreement is cancelled or cut short due to a medical condition that has effected yourself or one of the travelling party or an immediate family member of yourself or one of the
travelling party for which you are able to provide a medical certificate, or an accident or mechanical breakdown or similar misadventure which necessitates the cancellation of your rental vehicle and where there is no refund from the rental company for the unused portion of the rental.

Roadside repairs & costs

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule for costs incurred as a result of being attended at the roadside by an appropriate Roadside/Recovery Service.

Towing

You are covered if you incur towing costs following physical loss or damage to or mechanical breakdown of the rental vehicle which results in a charge to you that has not and will not be reimbursed by the rental company. In the event that the towing charges derive from a “loss of key” or “lock out” or similar key-related issue, the driver must follow the process and guidelines prescribed by the rental company. If a towing company attends to the vehicle rather than an authorised locksmith, and where the rental company’s process guidelines have not been followed, any ensuing towing fees will not be recoverable through this policy.

Storage Impound Fees

You are covered to the amount shown in the benefit schedule for fees incurred if your vehicle is towed to a storage facility following a mechanical breakdown or accident.

Credit Card Fees

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule for credit/debit card fees charged by the Rental Company for processing your excess or damage costs.

Administration Costs

You are covered for any costs up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule relating to you substantiating your claim including but not limited to: handling fees, carriage fees, postal fees, accident fees, administration fees or anything of a similar nature.

Drop Off/Relocation of Vehicle

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule for any drop off charges you incur in the event of an accident or illness for which you are able to provide a medical certificate, that necessitates the relocation of a vehicle from the site of the accident or rental desk or towing destination, to another destination chosen by the rental company at their discretion.

Loss of Use Charges

You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefit schedule, for costs you are charged by the rental company for loss of use (also called "demurrage") of the rental while the vehicle is being repaired.
 
 

General conditions that apply to the whole policy

  1. You must take all reasonable precautions to avoid an accident, injury, serious illness or theft.
  2. Cover, during the insurance period, will take effect from the time you take legal control of the rental vehicle and will cease at the time the rental company assumes control of the rental vehicle whether at its business location or elsewhere.
  3. This insurance is provided for one rental vehicle at any one time, which may be driven and operated by you.
  4. You are required to submit your claim details within 45 days of you being charged by the car rental company.
  5. All certificates, information and evidence required by us shall be furnished at the expense of you or your legal representatives and shall be in such form and of such nature as we may prescribe. You shall as often as may reasonably be required submit to a medical examination on behalf of the insurer at your expense.
  6. Except with our written consent, you or your representative(s) are not entitled to admit liability on our behalf or to give any representations or other undertakings binding upon us. We shall be entitled to the absolute conduct, control and settlement of all proceedings arising out of or in connecting with claims in your name.
  7. We may at our own expense take proceedings in your name to recover compensation from any third party in respect of any indemnity provided under this policy and any amounts recovered shall belong to us. You agree to provide all reasonable assistance to us to recover such amounts.
  8. Any fraud, concealment, or deliberate misstatement either in the application which this insurance is based or in relation to any other matter affecting this insurance or in connection with the making of any claim hereunder shall render this insurance null and void, all claims hereunder shall be forfeited and we may inform the police of the circumstances, and seek to recover previously paid claims.
  9. This policy is not valid if you (and all other drivers on the rental agreement) are unable to meet the eligibility criteria:
    1. You are aged between 19 & 99 inclusive, and
    2. You hold a valid, internationally recognised driving licence and
    3. You are eligible to rent and drive the rental vehicle and able to adhere to the terms of the rental agreement.
    4. You are listed on the rental agreement.

General Exclusions that apply to the whole policy

In addition to the exclusions listed under each section of coverage within this policy, the insurer shall not be responsible for:

  1. Any claim if you have not paid in full the appropriate premium.
  2. Any claim if you:
    1. Do not hold a full and valid and internationally recognised driving license, or
    2. The driver at the time is not a named person on the rental agreement.
  3. Claims arising directly or indirectly from:
    1. Your suicide or attempted suicide.
    2. Your self inflicted injury or illness.
    3. Your wilful exposure to danger (except in an attempt to save human life)
    4. You being under the influence of alcohol or drugs (other than drugs taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a registered medical practitioner, but not for the treatment of drug addiction).
    5. The rental being used in, or training for, racing competitions, trials, rallies or speed testing.
    6. Driving on unsealed roads where you are not permitted by the rental company to drive on.
  4. Claims directly or indirectly caused by:
    1. Any fraudulent, dishonest or criminal act committed by you or any other person you are in collusion with.
    2. Driving the rental vehicle in violation of the terms of the rental agreement.
    3. Persons who are not named on the rental agreement.
    4. Drivers who are aged under 19 or over 99 at either the time of purchasing this policy or the date of commencement.
  5. Claims relating to:
    1. The rental of a minibus or other type of bus, motor home, trailer, caravan, truck, non-passenger carrying vehicle, motorcycle, moped, motorbike, off-road vehicles being used off-road, vehicles that carry 16 or more passengers or a recreational vehicle.
    2. Vehicles that are not rented from a licensed car rental company.
    3. Losses occurring whilst driving on unsealed roads, safaris or adventure trails.
  6. Claims from loss or destruction of, or damage to any property whatsoever, or any loss or expense whatsoever resulting in or arising there from, or any consequential loss of any legal liability of whatsoever nature, directly or indirectly caused by or contributed to, or arising from:
    1. Ionising radiation or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel; or
    2. The radioactive, toxic, explosive or other hazardous properties of any explosive nuclear assembly or nuclear component thereof;
  7. Loss or damage directly or indirectly occasioned by happening through or in consequence of war, an act of terrorism, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power or confiscation or nationalisation or requisition or destruction of or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority.
  8. Losses in respect of any property or expenses more specifically insured or any claim which but for the existence of this insurance should be recoverable under any other insurance.
  9. Claims or incidents that may give rise to a claim not notified directly in writing to us within 45 days of you being charged by the rental company.
     

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
 

We are committed to protect your personal information and we are committed to the principles of data security in the configuration of our services. As a data controller, we collect and process information about you and we also receive personal information from your booking agent including your email address, name and phone number, which enables us to issue and modify policies and process claims. We may share that data from time to time with insurers or contractors who may be outside of  your country of domicile We will never share your data with external marketing services. Our Privacy Policy outlines how we process your data, the data that we collect and the processes to undertake should you either wish to request a copy of your data, or remove consent for us to retain your data.

Our privacy policy contains detailed information about how you can access and seek correction of your personal information; complain about a breach of the privacy law, and how we will deal with your complaint. By applying for, using or renewing any of our products or services, or providing us with your information, you agree to this information being collected, held, used and disclosed as set out in this policy.

Insurance under more than one policy

Outstanding amounts will be paid where the loss can be covered by another insurance policy.

Claim Validity

In the event that a policy was suggested or recommended by a rental company, we won’t pay out claims.

Your Rights

This document contains important information to help you understand the features, benefits and risk of this insurance. Before you decide whether to purchase it, you need to read this document carefully. This document is a combined Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) & Financial Service Guide (FSG) as required under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). Information in the combined PDS & FSG may need to be updated from time to time. You can obtain a paper copy of any updated information without charge by calling or emailing us. If the update is to correct a misleading or deceptive statement or an omission, that is materially adverse from the point of view of a reasonable person deciding whether to acquire this policy, we will provide you with a new combined PDS & FSG or a Supplementary combined PDS & FSG.

Other Important Information

This policy shall be governed and construed in accordance with the law of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute under this policy shall be resolved within the jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.

The premium on this policy includes an amount for GST and if we pay a claim your GST status may determine the amount to be paid on the claim. You must advise us if You are registered, or required to be registered, for GST purposes, and you must when requested tell us what your entitlement to Input Tax Credits (ITCs) is for your insurance premium.

In order to calculate the policy premium we take various factors into consideration including the type of rental vehicle, the duration of the rental period, your age and the country of travel. Your premium also includes amounts payable in respect of compulsory government charges including Stamp Duty, Fire Services Levy (where applicable) and GST. When You apply for this cover you will be advised of the total amount payable. 

 

 

 
Complaints/Disputes 

If you have a complaint concerning the financial product or services provided to you, Cover Genius will endeavour to resolve your complaint as soon as possible, usually within 1 business day. If you remain dissatisfied with the solution Cover Genius offers, we will refer the matter to our Internal Dispute Resolution (IDR) facility. Cover Genius undertake to acknowledge your complaint and respond with a final decision within 15 business days. In the event the dispute remains unresolved following the IDR process, you may discuss the matter further with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) is a free dispute resolution service to consumers who may be in dispute with their insurer. AFCA will indicate whether they can assist you with your complaint as this service is not available to all customers/products.

Definitions

Any word defined below will have the same meaning wherever it is shown in your policy. These definitions have been listed in alphabetical order.

Accident or collision means a sudden, unexpected event caused by something external and visible, which results directly in loss, damage or physical bodily injury.

Act of terrorism means an act, including but not limited to the use of force or violence and/or the threat of any person or group of persons whether acting alone, or on behalf of, or in connection with any organisation, or government, committed for political, religious, ideological or similar purposes including the intention to influence any government and/or the public, or any section of the public in fear.

Car rental means any one private car hired under a contract from a car rental company, authorised car share program, loan car from a licensed mechanic, accident replacement vehicle or minibus with not more than 13 seats, during the period of insurance.

The definition of a rental vehicle does not include the rental of a truck, motor home or other type of vehicle that contains a bed, trailer, caravan, van, motorcycle, moped, motorbike, off-road vehicle or a recreational vehicle or non-passenger carrying vehicle.

Car rental agreement means the contract provided by a car rental company in respect to the provision of a rental vehicle that contains the signature of the policy holder and that states the excess for which the policy holder is responsible.

Car rental company means a commercial operation in business to rent out vehicles that is fully licensed, where applicable, by the regulatory authority of that country, state or local authority.

Certificate of insurance means an insurance validation certificate issued which describes who is covered under this policy.

Country of residence means your usual place of residence, for no less than 6 months of the year.

Excess means the amount for which you are held responsible under the terms of the car rental agreement as a result of the physical loss of or damage to the rental vehicle, including fire, vandalism, theft and loss of use.

Public road means a road that is sealed and recognised by the relevant authority.

RentalCover.com, a website owned by Cover Genius Pty Ltd means the Policy Issuer and Claims administration system.

Tax means a Government tax including Stamp Duty and Goods and Services Tax, which must be paid by you in addition to the insurance premium.

Theft means a vehicle that has been stolen or removed, to either a known or unknown location, without your permission.

Underbody means the underside of the vehicle excluding bumpers and trim.

Vandalism means a vehicle that has been intentionally damaged by someone without your permission. 

You and your means the person named on the Certificate of Insurance which attaches to this policy. This person must also be named and included in the rental agreement. All other drivers named in the rental agreement are also covered.
 

 

This is the Financial Service Guide.


This Financial Services Guide (FSG) is an important document and is designed to help you decide whether to use the financial services offered. The FSG also contains information about how Cover Genius Pty Ltd, ABN 43 159 983 598, AFSL 490058 (Cover Genius) is remunerated for providing these financial services and how your complaints are dealt with.

What financial services are provided? 

Cover Genius is authorised to issue and arrange for the issue of general insurance products and provide general advice on general insurance policies. We do not act on your behalf when we do any of these things.
Our Australian Financial Services Licence does not authorise us to provide personal advice to anyone. Any advice we give will not take into account your personal objectives, financial situation or needs. You need to determine whether the product meets your insurance needs. Before you make any decision about whether to acquire any insurance product recommend, you should obtain and read the PDS.

Binder 

Cover Genius has a binding authority which means it can enter into, vary or cancel insurance policies and handle and settle claims on behalf of Assetinsure Pty Limited (ABN 65 066 463 803, AFSL 488 403) (Assetinsure) provided it acts within its delegated authority. Cover Genius acts for Assetinsure and does not act on your behalf.

Remuneration 

Cover Genius is paid a commission by Assetinsure when you buy a policy. This commission is included in the premium that you pay and is received after you have paid the premium. This commission is a percentage of the premium.
Cover Genius employees are paid an annual salary and may be paid a bonus based on business performance.
Our associates, referrers and distributors receive commission from us that is a percentage of the premium.

Cover Genius holds professional indemnity insurance covering errors and mistakes relating to the provision of financial services provided by Cover Genius, its employees, its affiliates and the affiliates employees (even after they cease to be employed). Cover Genius’s policy meets the requirement of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
