Am I insured if I have more than one accident?

Whether or not you are insured in the case of multiple accidents largely depends on two factors:

  1. Whether your rental company charges an excess on every accident
  2. How much coverage you have taken out through RentalCover.com

If your rental company only charges their excess on the first accident then you will almost certainly be insured by your RentalCover.com policy, even if the car you have hired is damaged more than one time (as always you should check your level of coverage in your policy document to be aware of the maximum amount that can be claimed).

If, however, your rental company charges the cost of the excess for every claim, then you will need to weigh up the possible costs of multiple accidents, against the amount of coverage you will need to take out with RentalCover.com. We recommend customers increase the level of coverage on their quote to an amount they feel will comfortably provide coverage to any potential scenarios, before purchasing a policy.

Example

RentalCover.com customer Greg has taken out a policy to provide coverage to his rental while visiting relatives in Poland. However when reading through the terms of his rental company, he notices that he will be liable to pay the €3500 excess charge every time he has an accident. While Greg is a safe enough driver, he is aware that Poland has the highest number of accidents out of any country in Europe, and this will dramatically increase the risk that he will have more than one accident in the month he is visiting the country. As a result Greg logs into RentalCover.com and increases his coverage to €12000, to ensure he is safe even in the unlikely event that he has three separate accidents.
