Insurance offered & what you need to know
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
CDW (also called “Loss Damage Waiver” if the coverage includes theft of the vehicle) waives damage costs depending on the deductible amount.
  • CDW is usually bundled with your car booking (check your booking confirmation to confirm).
  • CDW does not typically cover theft of a rental vehicle. If it’s stolen you will be required to reimburse the full value of the vehicle.
  • Some types of damage are not covered by CDW from the rental companies e.g. windshields, cracks and chips, tire punctures & replacements, and damages to headlamps and undercarriage and damages caused by road conditions and animals .
  • CDW does not cover expensive accident-related fees such as administration, towing and loss of use fees.
  • May not cover accident-related fees.
  • Any claim on your personal auto insurance will negatively impact your premiums.
  • The deductible is usually CA$1,000 - CA$1,500 if drivers rely on their personal auto plan.
Roadside Assistance Cover
Covers roadside costs such as towing, fuel and key lockout.
  • Can be purchased for CA$14.24 - CA$21.36 per day.
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
Super Collision Damage Waiver reduces your remaining deductible towards US$0.00.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI or LIS)

Pre-pay and save

Take photos before and after

Take photos and videos of the vehicle at both pickup and dropoff. During your claim, we’ll ask you to provide these photos and details if there are any unfair charges from your rental company. Take the time to capture any pre-existing damage and nominate those in your rental agreement to avoid excessive charges.

Just say 'no'

If you've bought Collision Damage Waiver and/or Supplemental Liability Insurance with us, you can say 'no' to the hard sell for CDW/LDW or SLI from the rental company.

If you've bought Deductible Package Insurance with us, you can say 'no' to the hard sell for deductible waivers and roadside assistance from the rental company.

With Collision Damage Insurance...
  1. Notify your rental car company of the damage immediately. If the costs are likely to exceed $3,000, please notify us via our claim form. You can check your policy wording at any time.

  2. Go to rentalcover.com/claim to report all incidents.

  3. Submit finalised invoices, photos, all written communications and other documents as requested. You may receive a bill from the rental car company. If so, attach it to your claim and our underwriter (Intact Insurance Company) will pay the rental car company directly. If you’re required to pay your rental car company up front, keep the invoice and you will be reimbursed when your claim is approved.
With Excess Reduction...
  1. Notify your rental car company of the damage immediately. They will advise next steps. If the costs are likely to exceed $3,000, please notify us via our claim form before paying any money to the rental company. Make sure you check your policy wording.

  2. When your rental is finished, submit your claim at rentalcover.com/claims. You will need these documents.

  3. We pay 98% of claims within 3 business days, but do keep in mind that settlement times may differ.

  4. If your rental company provides you with a new vehicle, your RentalCover.com policy will also cover the new vehicle for the duration of your policy provided it’s a like-for-like exchange. You do not need to notify us of the vehicle change.
